Mañana; a word we have become far too familiar with during our first two weeks in Colombia. If you asked me a month ago what I thought we'd be doing two weeks into our epic South American adventure, the answer would not have been testing out exotic potato chip flavors as we binge watch BBC's hit series Bodyguard (although I must say, if you haven't seen it, it is pretty damn good). But no, I figured we would be in some small town in the mountains riding through twisting roads taking in all the beautiful scenery Colombia has to offer. But alas, that is one of the reasons we decided to do long-term traveling...the ability to not stress when things don't go as planned.
So how did we get here? Well, to keep a long story short, the bikes we decided (and are determined) to buy for this trip are completely sold out everywhere in Colombia, and the new models are in the process of making their way to the dealers...which leads us to South America travel tip #1: never assume anything. (A close second being beware of large potholes that can swallow you whole). Every dealership we went to kept promising the bikes were coming in "mañana" (tomorrow), but many mañanas have gone by and we are still bike-less. We are hopeful, however, that we will have them by the end of this week.
In the meantime, we have been able to do some pretty awesome non-bike traveling and exploring, including visiting the stunning Tayrona National Park. See below for some pictures from Cartagena, Tayrona, and Bogota as well as a video summing up our time in and around Tayrona.
Cheers,
Erin
What a great start for your adventure. It isn't an adventure if things go as planned after all, that's just a trip. Many years ago I learned the mistake people make translating "Manyana". They think it means "Tomorrow", it does not, it means "Not Today". 😉
